The heat in Kumawood just turned all the way up! Legendary Ghanaian actor and comedian Agya Koo has fired back hard at LilWin, after the latter threw shade at his current status in the film industry.
In an interview on Kumasi’s Nhyira FM, LilWin boldly claimed that Agya Koo is “living on past glory” — suggesting the iconic star has faded into the background, now hosting podcasts and performing at funerals instead of being active in mainstream film. The comments sparked fire on social media, with many fans and film lovers accusing LilWin of disrespecting a trailblazer.
But Agya Koo wasn’t about to let it slide.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he reminded LilWin — and the world — that he’s the reason Kumawood even has a legacy to talk about.
“I’m proud to have inspired many actors and actresses, including you,” he wrote.
“Yes, I’ve moved into live band music — and I’m loving it. You’re also making music, just that you make noise on beat like some Bantama ‘kwenkwen’ seller.”
BOOM.
Agya Koo didn’t stop there. He questioned LilWin’s self-proclaimed title as the new face of Ghanaian cinema, pointing out that during his reign, Nigerian films couldn’t even compete in Ghana — but his movies were the heartbeat of every household.
“You’re chasing Nigerian recognition and calling yourself king? In my time, my movies made Ghana forget Nollywood. Keep pushing your craft — but please, stop the noise… Actor Kwame.”
Ouch.
The back-and-forth has reignited a fierce conversation around legacy, relevance, and respect in the Ghanaian creative space. While some fans are backing Agya Koo as the OG who paved the way, others say LilWin is simply speaking his truth as the current dominant figure in the scene.
One thing’s clear: Kumawood has entered its beef era, and this one’s personal.
