World College of Mayors’ curtain raiser event held in Accra sparks new era of city governance. |
The World College of Mayors (WCM) held its curtain-raiser event in the first half of September 2025 at the Tang Palace Hotel in Accra, Ghana, marking the beginning of a transformative global initiative.
Dr. Manohar Roy, Chief Operating Officer of WCM, launched his 10-country working visit with Ghana as the first destination. The tour is designed to strengthen the capacity of grassroots-level politicians and local leaders to drive sustainable development through sister-city partnerships, e-governance, and green energy solutions.
At the Accra event, the World College of Mayors highlighted the importance of empowering local governance structures, ensuring leaders have the tools and knowledge to deliver transparent and people-focused development. Central to this mission was the promotion of e-governance for accountability and inclusivity as well as advancing green energy initiatives in alignment with the Kigali Convention.
The programme featured the participation of distinguished personalities and leaders, including HRH Hajia Salma Naa Dede Zabarma Ga I, Queen Mother; Dr. Manohar Roy, Operations Director, WCM; Alhaj Seidu Haruna, Galadima of Chamba Community, Dodowa; Regina Otchere, Health Worker; Nana Ama Antwiwaa Namaana II, Queen Mother; Mr. Justice Akodia, Corporate IT Manager, Ghana Ports & Harbours Authority; Mr. Henry Geli, Henworld Group of Companies; Abdullah A. Salaam, Culture Director, WCM; Abdullah Inusah, Ghana Director, WCM; Anas Musa, CEO, Positive Drive Investment Ltd.; and Uboryaa Abdus Samee Ibrahim Ninicyle Nwii, Chamba Chief, Ambassador Abukari Imbrana Awudu International Ambassador of Peace.
Looking ahead, WCM has planned a series of high-level conferences in Brazil, France, Japan and South Africa, bringing together international stakeholders to share best practices and strengthen global cooperation. These engagements will also include capacity-building programmes and training sessions on ethical leadership, sustainable city management, and innovative governance practices.
